Elizabeth Gilbey
Rusko Studio is a small but vibrant art school set in the beautiful Fleet Valley in Galloway. The resident artist and teacher, Elizabeth Gilbey, works here to make paintings direct from nature. She hosts both local students and those from the rest of the UK and abroad to paint in the stunning landscape found in Southern Scotland.

About My Practice
I work direct from nature as much as possible. The ever-changing weather, seasons and light make for fantastic subject matter. I work according to time-honoured methods to capture the shapes, colours and atmosphere of real places and things. I love flowers and still life as much as outdoor painting.
Tools & Materials
My work is mainly in oils as this medium is both versatile and forgiving. It gives me an unrivalled range of techniques to grab the effects of light on my subjects. I love to try out the best brushes and paint colours I can find and follow renowned paint makers like Michael Harding.
I also work in pastels and watercolour and in monochrome media like charcoal.
I love experimenting with mark-making in all media.
